Challenge

I was blog browsing this morning (I had plenty of time for this as my dear son decided to wake up at 6:30, stay up just long enough for me to fully wake up, and then go back to sleep, thus leaving me up) and while reading my friends' blog over here, I saw her reading list on the side of her blog and felt inspired.

Okay so I need to compile a list of books for 2011 that I am going to read. I think I'd like to make up a list of 75 to read. I was going to pick 111 in honour of the year 2011, but I'm not feeling quite that ambitious. So. I need your book picks. Suggestions, please! Give me at least three of your favorite books...I'd love to know what's out there worth reading that I have not yet discovered. I prefer fiction, but am really open to anything.

Please and thankyou :)

  1. The Book of Negroes. Read it. Maybe you already have. Read it again. Sooo worth reading.

  2. I read lots of books so it's hard for me to list "favourites", but here are some I really liked:

    1) Three - by Ted Dekker
    2) The Visitation - Frank Peretti
    3) The Circle Trilogy: Black, Red, White - Ted Dekker
    4) I'm a huge John Grisham fan and have read all of his books. One of my favourites is Runaway Jury, but they are all really good (except I didn't really enjoy The Chamber or Street Lawyer). Maybe try some of his non-lawyer ones like The Painted House or Playing for Pizza (they mention the Sask Roughriders in that book!)

A non-fiction book I want to read yet is City on it's knees by Toby Mac. Looks really good.

  4. You probably don't even know who I am( I attend West Portal) but I love reading -mostly fiction. Aside from the 2 books that I recommended above I would add anything by Alexander McCall Smith -especially the No.1 Ladies Dectective series - there are about 9 books in that series such as The Full Cupboard of life .( They are in the mystery section of the library but I would describe them as lighthearted, happy books.)
Other books I would recommend are
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
A Prayer for Owen Meanie - John Irving
    The Kite runner- Khaled Hosseini
A Fine Balance - Rohinton Mistry
Those last 2 are anything but lighthearted but they sure open your eyes to how life is very different in some parts of the world.I would love to see the list you come up with as I'm always looking for recomendations of good books.

  5. I don't really read much, frankly b/c I don't have the time and most the books I pick up I lose interest in... I guess I'd rather be "doing" than "reading". Anyhoo, I have been reading one very interesting book which I keep picking up (must be good they eh?? lol):
'Captivating: Unveiling the mysteries of a womans soul' by John and Stasi Eldridge.
